README FIRST! Command Interceptor for NetMail
Novell(r) NetMail(tm)
Installing the Command Interceptor(tm)
________________________________________________________________________
To enable Command Interceptor protection, you must install the Command
Interceptor for NetMail. These instructions can be used to install it
from the downloaded file or from the CD.
PRE-INSTALLATION REQUIREMENTS
Before installing the Command Interceptor for NetMail, your system must:
- Have NetMail 3.1e or higher installed
CAUTION: If you have Command AntiVirus for NetWare(r) 4.80f or higher
installed on your NetWare server, you can also install
Command Interceptor for NetMail on the same server. However,
before you install Command Interceptor for NetMail, you MUST
first unload Command AntiVirus for NetWare. You can then reload
Command AntiVirus for NetWare after you install Command Interceptor
for NetMail.
To prevent any conflict between the two products, you must also
exclude the NetMail directory called sys:novonyx\mail from being
scanned by Command AntiVirus for NetWare.
INSTALLING THE COMMAND INTERCEPTOR FOR NetMail
To install the Command Interceptor for NetMail, follow these steps:
1. Create a folder on your local hard drive.
2. Copy the downloaded self-extracting file into the folder
that you created in Step 1, and extract the file.
3. Double-click SETUP.EXE. The program displays a BROWSE FOR COMPUTER
dialog box.
4. Browse to and select a NetWare Server, and click OK.
The program copies the files to the appropriate directories.
When the copying is complete, the program displays the
INSTALLATION COMPLETED SUCCESSFULLY message box.
NOTE: Although the installation is complete, virus scanning
is NOT activated.
5. Click OK.
6. To activate virus scanning, use NWAdmin to add an AntiVirus Agent
to the NetMail configuration. Then, configure this agent.
CAUTION: The Command Interceptor for NetMail is now installed, but
to start virus scanning, you MUST unload and reload NetMail.
After installing the Command Interceptor, we highly recommend
that you update your virus definition files.
UPDATING VIRUS DEFINITION FILES
If you are running Command AntiVirus for NetWare:
If you are running Command AntiVirus for NetWare on the same server as
Command Interceptor for NetMail, and you are updating the virus definition
files for Command AntiVirus for NetWare automatically, follow these steps:
1. Unload CSAVHTTP by typing:
UNLOAD CSAVHTTP
2. Add the following four commands to the CSAVUPDT.INI file:
dest=sys:system\f-prot\
pre=unload avirus
post=load avirus
nlm=avirus.nlm
NOTE: For an explanation of these commands, refer to Step 3 under
AUTOMATICALLY.
3. Save the file.
4. To start the program, type:
LOAD CSAVHTTP
When new virus definition files are downloaded, both products will be updated.
If you are running Command AntiVirus for NetWare on the same server as
Command Interceptor for NetMail, and you are updating the virus definition
files for Command AntiVirus for NetWare manually, continue with this
process. To update Command Interceptor for NetMail, reload the
Command Interceptor using the NetMail commands to stop and start the
antivirus agent.
If you are NOT running Command AntiVirus for NetWare:
If you are NOT running Command AntiVirus for NetWare, you can update
the virus definition files automatically or manually on a single server.
AUTOMATICALLY
NOTE: For the automatic update to work, you MUST be able to connect
to the Internet.
To automatically update the virus definition files on a single server,
follow these steps:
1. If you do not have a directory called SYS:\CSAVNDEF on the server
that you are updating, create one.
2. In the SYS:\CSAVNDEF directory, create a file called csavupdt.ini.
3. In the CSAVUPDT.INI file, type the following:
server=download.commandsoftware.com
username=user
password=password
dest=sys:system\f-prot\
pre=unload avirus
post=load avirus
nlm=avirus.nlm
server= Specifies the location of the virus definition files
that are to be downloaded from the Command web site.
NOTE: As the IP address of the downloads may change,
to prevent failure of future updates, we highly
recommend that you enable DNS on the file server.
CAUTION: If you do NOT have DNS enabled, you MUST check
the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) section
of our web site for the current IP address —
www.commandsoftware.com/service/support/FAQSearch.asp.
Just search the CSS ANSWERBOOK by typing one
of the following options in the SEARCH TEXT box
and clicking SEARCH:
021111
IP address
user Represents your Command user name
password Represents your Command password
NOTE: You MUST use a valid user name and password.
dest= Allows you to specify the location to which the virus
definition files are copied after they are downloaded
and extracted. By default, this location is
SYS:SYSTEM\F-PROT.
pre= Unloads/Stops the antivirus agent
post= Restarts the antivirus agent
CAUTION: Never specify "load csscan". There is no
need to restart the Command Interceptor.
nlm= Monitors the NetMail AVIRUS.NLM for the completion
of the unloading/stopping of the antivirus agent
4. Save the file.
5. To start the program, type:
LOAD CSAVHTTP
The program checks the Command web site approximately every hour.
If the virus definition files are out of date, the virus definition
files update called DEFFILES.ZIP is downloaded from our web site
and extracted. Then, the following extracted files are copied to the
SYS:\SYSTEM\F-PROT directory on the server that you are updating:
SIGN.DEF
SIGN2.DEF
MACRO.DEF
NOTE: DEFFILES.EXE contains five (5) files. Command Interceptor
for NetMail does not use the NOMACRO.DEF or CSS_1740.CSV files.
Virus scanning is temporarily suspended while Command Interceptor
for NetMail copies the virus definition files to the
SYS:\SYSTEM\F-PROT directory. Virus scanning resumes after the
virus definition files are copied.
NOTE: As NetMail holds mail while the virus definition files are
updated, you are not unprotected.
MANUALLY
To update your Command Interceptor for NetMail virus definition files,
manually follow these steps:
1. Create a temporary directory on your local hard drive.
2. Download the virus definition update file called DEFFILES.EXE
from our web site to the directory that you created in Step 1.
3. Go to the temporary directory containing DEFFILES.EXE, and
double-click the file to extract the files that are contained
within it.
4. Copy the following extracted files to the SYS:\SYSTEM\F-PROT
directory:
- SIGN.DEF
- SIGN2.DEF
- MACRO.DEF
NOTE: DEFFILES.EXE contains five (5) files. Command Interceptor
for NetMail does not use the NOMACRO.DEF or CSS_1740.CSV
files.
5. Reload the Command Interceptor for NetMail using the NetMail
Commands to stop and start the antivirus agent.
